    Hi all,

I got home today from work and like everyday 1st thing i do is check if my fish are all ok. So everything looks great but i can't find 2 of my german blue rams in one of my tanks, my first thought is that they died but after searching some more surprise surprise i found one pair have spawned!!!

I am in seventh heaven right now. Sooo what do i do now? (Must i move the pair with the eggs or is it a lost case for this spawn...) If there is any chance of survival can i feed the new ones newly hatched brine shrimp or any other idea??

They're tank mates consist of 40 Cardinals, 20 neons, 6 guppys, 11 runny noses, 5 black widows, 6 white clouds, another 6 german blue rams, 5 albino corrys, 4 pepper corrys, 2 bronz corrys, 1 seamese alge eater and 1 pleco.

Any advice will be really appreciated

What a beautiful tank @Gerrit. My recommendation is that you must just leave well enough alone watch and see if the eggs hatch and how the parent's cope with the brood. There is a chance that not many/if any will survive from this batch, but if they do, it's a bonus for you. Once they have either lost all the eggs or have raised the babies I would suggest that you move the pair to their own tank so that they can breed successfully from there and not stand the chance of losing any eggs or babies to other fishy predators...

Hi Khalid well i have bore hole water so i use half ro and half normal water, the ph is 7.5 kh 6 (hard water) but i use a lot of drift wood in the tank and in the sump, this helps a lot. The eggs didn't make it but they spawned again last night, eggs are still there but i don't think for long. I am busy setting up a breeding tank so next time i hope i will be victorious!!! As soon as it is up and running i will take a photo of the tank.

I feed them twice a day with 4 different tetra brands and twice a week bloodworms and sundays brine shrimp, as for water changes wednesdays i do a 10% water change and on sundays a 30% water change.

Sadly I believe @Gerrit lost the eggs to the Ram tankmates but is dedicating a 100l tank to his future success.

There seems to be a fair amount of interest in Blue Rams on TASA. I am going to start a thread to gauge the interest.

Hi all, just an update. I started 2 100l breeding tanks with one pair of gbr in each, the one pair laid eggs and they hatched but they ate the fry when they became free swimming. So last night both of the pairs layd eggs again so hopefully this time...

I will take photos of the tanks and eggs as soon as i can.

All of the best with your rams, hopefully you will be able to get them raised. Waiting eagerly for the photo's. What is the temperature of your tanks? What type of filters do you have on your breeding tanks? Is there a good lfs in Brits?

Hi wsteene in the breeding tanks i run the temp at 28deg and i use sumps on the tanks with filter flos in one chamber and ceramic rings in the other chamber (prof Dirk's design).

I will give them 2 more shots at breeding and if that won't work i will have to remove the eggs (i don't really want to do it so lets hope for the best)...

Hi all, just an update. I removed the 1st pair's eggs and the hatch rate was great but most died the first week (must find something else to give the fry for the first week, i think micro worms are too big for some of the fry!). I have 38 left and no deaths for 9 days, they are doing great (they are starting to look like rams).

I removed the second pair's eggs and same story as above, they are 1 week old...
