The first lots of youngsters are now almost 2 months old and are doing really, really well. I am feeding them on freshly hatched brine shrimp and flake food.
The pair of rams now have another spawn which have now become free swimming. I left the eggs with the parents thinking that they would eat the eggs but they didn't :))

Thanks - was wondering how long it would take for them to colour up.

Thanks - the Apistos were quite small and thin when I got them so they were not ready for any breeding. Since then, they have gotten a lot fatter and bigger so hopefully any day now.

Is it easy to breed with GBR's? Can you keep them with other fish or do they need to be alone? I have Discus and Cardinal Tetras.

If you want to breed them then they do need to be alone. They become really aggressive when breeding. Also, the fry will be eaten by the other fish. They are not hard to breed but you will need a constant supply of freshly hatched brine shrimp.

@Irma I read in Tyrone's book that you should stop with the BBS as soon as the fry can take chopped blood worm for instance. Reason for this is that BBS does not have enough HUFA's in it and does not allow for the development of many systems, especially the nervous system. Your fry looks big enough to take all sorts of other food already. I feed lobster eggs as a second food - fry love it and explodes with growth...

Hi there, - thanks for the advise. I will look into it. I do have normal frozen fish eggs for my marine fish. Would that be okay to feed them?

I am sure it would it is after all cold blooded protein so should be OK. I battle to get my fry off live foods - what fry food do you use?

I use Prof Dirk's flake foods which they are eating with full gusto.
I am using the brine shrimp flakes mixed in with spiralina flakes. It is what I have available and they seem to enjoy it.

I dont fully agree with the stop feeding BBS as soon as they can eat other food @francoisve. It is the most nutriotionist foods that there is, as long as it is fed, when hatched, and not when they have absorbed their egg sacks. It is always a great food source, and if the fry gets big enough to eat chopped blood worm etc, you should still feed BBS.

Yip @HennieRoux you are indeed quite correct, I expressed it the wrong way... What I meant is that you should supplement with other foods as soon as possible so that there is a varied diet... Thanks for the correction...

Yes, that is why I am also feeding the 2 different flake food. I will however, also start giving them frozen bloodworm and frozen fish eggs.

Great @francoisve :) no problem. @Irma they say variety is the spice of life, and it seems like you are doing that part right.
