Geophagus proximus "RARE in hobby" ???

Up until now, I've been exposed to and have bred a good few Geophagines.

I hear ANOTHER Geophagine has made it's appearance in SA

Geophagus proximus is the Western most of "South American Eartheaters"
Amazonian in Distribution

"RARE in the hobby" whatever that means

Sometimes also known as "Suriname Eartheater".
Not to be confused with the complex of species referred to generically as Geophagus "surinamensis"

An international South American Cichlid and Discus Breeder-Exporter, reportedly sent a 3" batch of Geophagus proximus to South Africa recently, and I know they'll be in Cape Town shortly.

Anybody who buys a few, or spots them can post here.
Personally I've only ever seen mag/webpics.

So it would be nice, if we had our own mugshots...of these and other fish

Looks like a nice mild-mannered medium-large kinda fish.

 

I have 1 in my tank.
Don't have a pic yet but may take pics later and post tomorrow.

Yip, seen them around as well. Also in Henk's tank.

Geophagus proximus is NOT G altifrons

G altifrons and
G proximus are BOTH valid species.


"Suriname" is quite a catch-all name.
Breeder has BOTH those, and a few others.


Many have made mistakes before, with ID within the Genus.


They are F2 fish.


If you DO have them, nice find!
But if you THINK you have same fish, do an exhaustive literary review.
