    Hi Proff

Just want to find out if normal garrden plants are safe to use in a fresh water aquarium? If so which plants are these?

If not could you maybe tell me why?

    Thank you

    Hi Troy,

I am a little puzzled by this question? Why do you want to grow garden plants in an aquarium?

At any rate, you ask if they are safe to use. Well, unless they have been sprayed recently with insecticides or if they are not toxic then they can be used. What you must realize though is that normal plants that grow above water will invariably rot if placed under water and this rotting will also be toxic to fishes.

There are some bog plants that may survive a little longer, but normal above water plants will not survive and will die.

I hope this answers your questions?

    Kind regards,

    Dirk

normal pond plants will be fine if a bit oversized. normal terrestrial plants on the other hand will eventually melt and mess up the water quality. bog plants will survive a little longer but arent suitable for fully submerged growth.. do you want to plant stuff in the aquarium to use as a terrarium, or do you want to fill it with water? if filled, why would you want to use terrestrial plants?

I would assume because it's cheaper to grab a few plants from the garden outside that to go and buy from the LPS? LOL
