My Betta has grown a fungis around it's mouth since last night. It is a white cloudy colour, almost like cotton wool. Is there anybody that can tell me anything about this fungis and how to treat it in a community tank that has a black ghost knife fish in it?

Carping the best solution to your current problem is to remove the betta and put him in his own little tank, or glass bowl. Treat him with one of the MANY anti-fungal medications available out there. Won't take long and he should heal up great!

Nah - usually fungus clears up quickly, especially if the fish was healthy before it came along. Did you happen to notice whether he had any injury to that area before the fungus appeared?

How often do you do water changes for your betta?

@Veegal, No, he has been in the tank for about 2 weeks now and just suddenly developed this fubgis around the mouth area
@Solex, We do a 20% change every week

Saw yesterday morning that one of my Betta females in the 120lt tank also had the same symtoms. It starts what looks like the lips are swelling up. Found her dead this morning. Other 2 females with her still looked ok.

Funny thing is that it seems only to affect my Bettas???

an immediate 80% water change is suggested. Add non-iodised salt to the water and maybe.

If that fails, then use anti-fungal meds.
Other ppl may say to go the meds first and there's nothing wrong with that...I personally prefer to use meds as a last resort (isolate the fish in a seperate of course)

Let me know how it goes.

Isolated him on Saturday night and started giving him meds (Sera Mycopur). So far I have not seen any improvement in his condition. How much salt should I add to the water (30 liter hospital tank)? Is non-iodised salt the same as aquarium salt?
