    Hey guys the fish is a male, he recently paired off with my parrot and they have been inseparable yet he is too aggressive for some of my tanks and recently got beaten up in another. His fins are slightly damaged but nothing serious. I need to find a good home for him , which is most important. I just want him to be happy. please make me an offer on him

    thanks Jason

    Are you sure it is a he? I have about 10 of them. The males lost all the colour on the head and markings on the side. Rather drab if compared to the females. Check out this link.
    Hypsophrys nicaraguensis (Nicaragua Cichlid) Seriously Fish I find them rather peaceful compared to other cichlids. Due to the lack of space I had at one time a full grown male with discus and angels. All got along quite nicely. They are however seriously aggressive when breeding.

    @ABAB

    hi , i believe 'he' is a male as he and a parrot fish have paired, they continue to make nests and i have seen the parrot fish lay the eggs and 'him' fertilizing (or at least trying to) fertilize the eggs. According to the link , i would also think its a female but his behaviour with the parrot suggests other wise, surely.It may too not be evident in the photo but he also has a slight bump on his head and the extended dorsal fin, common to males.

    I originally got 'him' because i didnt think hthey were aggressive. he seems to pick fights with the texas. Both being stubborn it never ended well, so i separated them.i have found some fish to be uncommonly agressive and vice versa. i have a +-20cm oscar that has never displayed any signs of aggression to the other fish, yet some people seem to struggle with them.

    Have you been successful in breeding the nicuraguas?

    Yes I did. All the nicaraguas that I have are from previous spawns. I have lost the original pairs when I moved. No medicine for stupidity yet! They make excellent parents. I am waiting now to see if some of them won't pair off. Hopefully I will be lucky again.
