There is nothing wrong with Campcon. I fed it to my Discus for close to a year without any issues

oscar freak, if you anywhere near Northcliff, you can get Hikari direct from the distributor

Take a chill pill, they won't die all of a sudden from feeding Campcon BW. My O did fine from regular feeding and no ill effects after well over a year. Same too for the 6 Discus I had. Look up happy koi...

I agree with neil, have fed campcon bloodworms for a couple of years now and havent had anything die, and have only been rinsing the bloodworms for the last year or so in RO water.

Whilst I'm not suggesting that your fish WILL get sick, I want to point out, that there are several users of Campcon frozen foods that have had issues with Camellanus worm breakouts. This may not be the actual source, and could just be coincidence, but if I can get German/European stuff as an alternative, and its not going to cost the earth to get, then I would always choose that instead. Plus, generally the quality of the European stuff is much higher than the asian stuff.

The benefits of feeding frozen foods probably far outway the drawbacks of potential contamination, so it is more of an awareness than a 'throw it in the bin now'!! But as mentioned, European stuff should be seriously considered even if contaminants are not an issue, as the quality is just that much better!!

As with most things, these are treatable, and can be handled in the odd event that they actually do contaminate your fish. The main thing is to watch your fish and study their behaviour, then if they start acting differently, or have unusual marks/lumps/sores, then you need to trace the issue.

    Regards
    G!

I gave her away because she was sulking from being alone and too big for a 4ft tank. Gave her to someone who had other O's and she's now much happier

You sure its HITH and not the sensory pores on the O's head? HLLE/HITH/hexamita is usually down to poor quality

If the Oscar has Hole-in-the-head, then I would highly recommend actually getting some medicine to sort that out, rather than just relying on food and water changes!!

    Cheers

i'm almost certain its hole in the head, when i got him about 2 months ago he was kinda banged but he healed up nicely but there are still sum major holes on his head which are to big to be sensory pores.dont get me wrong his for all intents and purposes a happy active fish in fact i'm expecting another clutch of eggs from either of my 3 oscars(i got a 3sum) going on in my tank.i read somewhere that u can try the healthy varied diet and frequent water changes as a solution to disease.any ideas of what medication i can buy in case my intervention doesnt work

I cannot tell you the exact name, but the Waterlife range of meds seem to work pretty well!!

It would say on the label of the bottle, which diseases it treats!!

I cannot say that it is or isn't any good, as I have not come across that one, but theoretically speaking, it is from Germany, so their standards are a lot higher, otherwise people there would not buy it, so it should be good!?

At that price as well, I think you are doing well!!

What I would recommend though is maybe getting more than just Bloodworm??

I have BW, Artemia (Brine Shrimp), White Mosquito Larvae, Black Mosquito Larvae, Mysis Shrimp and a few others. Variety is key, even if you prodominently feed the bloodworm and artemia, and then use the others as less frequent treats.

I my opinion, Artemia is the best food on a regular basis, as it contains certain amino acids that are not naturally present in other foods. Blood worm is also rather a lot of roughage, and not so much of the other nutrients from what I understand?

So, get as much variation as you can, but Artemia and bloodworm are good as the main bulk together, with Artemia in slightly higher frequency.

    Hope that makes sense??
    Cheers

    Hey Franna!!

If I were you, then I would at least get the Brine Shrimp and Daphnia to go with your Bloodworm!

You mention Colour enhancement stuff?? Is it Bloodworm with the added enrichment??

    Regards
    G!

Hey. I Popped on the bicycle and went past the pet store and asked if they can lay out all there Frozen foods that we can buy. and got myself some more Brineshrimp and Bloodworms. Bloodworms were still only R28 but Brine shrimp costs allot more R44. You can also buy in bulk for cheaper. But I've never tried that.
Here is a photo of everything they have and just a photo of how big the cubes are. Sorry about the out of focus pic. taken with my phone and Im leaving it big so you can see the names. (there is one more. Big Bloodworms)
