    Something interesting happened this morning.
I removed the filter wool and filter matting from my built-in filter to rinse them, as I do weekly, when I do a clean-up and a 50% water change.
I noticed that there were some uneaten pieces of trapped Bloodworms in my filter material, BUT, they seemed very bright red !!
I stopped the rinsing and watched them for a while and they started moving.
So, from being frozen, could some of them have started living again ??, OR, I presume Bloodworms breed by laying eggs, so there must have been some frozen eggs that have hatched and got caught in the filter material.
I would have thought that the freezing process would have destroyed the cells in body of the worms, and would certainly have destroyed the viability of any eggs.
Has anyone got any idea of how this happened ?
    Cheers

bloodworms are midge fly larvae, so I think the most likely scenario is that a midge flew into your tank/filter and laid eggs at some point

Same thing happened in my Nano. So I definitely think it's eggs that somehow survived.

Thanks Tyrrell - I never knew that Bloodworms were midge fly larvae, so I just Googled it and read all about their life cycle. Interesting reading. See what one can learn by asking questions. I always just (stupidly) assumed Bloodworms were a species of worm.
As they say - one is never too old to learn !!
