Freshwater shrimps legal or not?

    Hi just joined the group... Not sure if illegal but the one fish shop here in PE had some for sale.

    I don't think anybody knows, whenever this topic arises, you'll hear about black lists, grey lists, white lists. If you were to contact the DEA and speak to a couple of people, I would be surprised if you could get a coherent answer from them.

    This is not really an informed opinion, but I understand that caridina nilotica (ghost shrimp) is fine because it is naturally widely distributed in Africa and found in all sorts of natural watercourses in South Africa. I understand that one of the reasons that more exotic shrimp (like amano, etc) are currently blacklisted is because no one's done a study to determine whether they are invasive here or not, even if popular opinion is that they wouldn't be.

    We are busy with the DEA and we did a petition on this. They are looking in to this and we might get lucky soon. If u have any shrimp in your tank then it is ok, it also ok to trade. Gonna take some time, but soon. Watch this space and the petition thread.
