    fresh h2o crabs etc

what is the blacklist and why are crabs on it? I saw while browsin posts that jewel cichlids are black listed but have seen plenty at LFS. It would be nice to have a crab or something in the tank like our marine friends...why cant we?

What about brackish water crabs? Or is that also seen as 'freshwater'?

I think if you can prove that the brackish crab will die in fresh water you will be OK.

yep looks bleak but all this is in place for good reason. we look at marine and there is variety that attracts us. However, a few months back, i only knew about fresh water species that the lfs had. Then came tasa and and an itroduction to so many different freshwater species. there is no beating the feeling of tracking something down and then trying to get it. even if something looks impossible, with help from the forum members, its achievable!

I'd think they fall under the blacklist. Many of the brackish genera of crabs and shrimp are mainly freshwater, and would most likely get swept under the blacklist blanket, so to speak.
