    Hi All,

Im looking to invest in a comprehensive encyclopedia/atlas - mainly to assist with identifying and learning a little more on the range of freshwater fish available for the hobbyist.

Two books that have caught my eye on amazon is Dr Axelrods Atlas & the Baensch Atlases - any other suggestions, or any owners of the mentioned volumes wish to share their experience on these books?

    tx

Axelrod's books are good, but a little out of date now.
The Baensch books are also well worth having. But the info is spread over a number of volumes. @DewaldC, there is an English version of these.

The Aqualog series is also well worth getting.

I find that books are far better than the Internet.
before a publisher will publish a book, they will make sure it is of a certain standard.

There is a lot of good info on the net, but there is a lot of rubbish too. And you have to know your stuff in order to differentiate. Which is not much help to beginners.

If you wish to part with that German version, let me know.

I have the big Axelrod Atlas, - outdated now and not much information for each species, but excellent to ID species.

tx Dewald & Reedfish - I'll see what the Christmas stocking will contain & perhaps give some feedback to the forum - that is if our post office get their act together....

I jut find the good old fashioned book still has its place - or am i giving my age away? :)

Hehe, in spite of my comment, I have to agree with the comments about books being more thorough.

Good luck, and have fun, all you old people...
