I was at one of my lfs this weekend, and they had some Freshwater Archer Fish, Toxotes blythii.

Very very nice, but at £75 each, I can't afford it. :sad2: Well, I could....but the Mrs wouldn't be happy when she saw the bank balance if I bought a pair..... :musicus:
So I had to leave them.

Jealousy is too weak a word right now... I'll leave it up to the rest of those who comment to find a better word.

Ever since I started reading about the archerfish family, these have always been my number one desire... pity we never see them in SA.

Curious... have you ever seen the other freshwater species, T. lorentzi?

This is the second time I have seen them. So hopefully they will become more readily available, and the prices will come down.

I have never seen this second species.

I'm starting to doubt that we're all talking about the same fish here. This is the true freshwater archer, with horizontal stripes. It's the only type of archer with this pattern. Dealers and LFSs often bring in archers and put them in freshwater, because they'll tolerate it for a while (and they'll sell easier), and call them freshwater archerfish.

As far as I know, these are relatively new in the trade, and everywhere else I've checked they've rare and carry extreme price tags.

@SalmonAfrica, I think you are correct. There is often a lot of confusion when people start selling brackish fish in freshwater. I have seen it many times unfortunately with various Puffers, Morays etc.
These blythii though are the "real deal".
