    Free to a good home!

I have 11 goldfish looking for a new home in Bloubergstrand.

Unfortunately, my neighbor isn’t happy with the noise from my pond’s pump and waterfall, so I’ve decided to remove the water feature and pond.

If you’d like to give these little swimmers a new home, please arrange to collect them as soon as possible.
    Please PM for number

You know, this must be one of the lamest excuses I have ever heard. They buy a house in Blouberg, can most probably hear the sound of the ocean 24/7 but want to complain about the sound of the pump and the waterfall.

May i suggest something. I assume its close to their bedroom window and their complaints is based on night time noise. If so, why dont you use a timer with a NO/NC contact. Connect your pump to the N/O and connect a small air pump to the normally close. Set the timer to switch on during the day, when you enjoy the waterfall and off at night when its bothering the neighbours. This will automatically start the air pump and keep the water in the pond circulating and aerated. That way you keep what you like and enjoy it while you are awake and the neighbours are happy as well. You can go one step further and try to damp the sound of the pump a bit with a cheap polistiren enclosure (R40 or so)

I would not give up my tranquility for the sake of the neighbours. I would make it work for both of us.

You are more than welcome to contact me if you consider doing this. Ill send you a little diagram of how to achieve this.

Please see this in the light I meant it.

It sounds to me like the waterfall is a secondary issue - and frankly if the sound of falling water annoys them then they can sod off to court to try and make a case. You don't mention the size of the pond but there is lots you can do to have clean water without using a powerful filtration system. You could dig a settlement pit, or a bog setup with water iris that you move the water over. You don't need a powerful, noisy pump for this. There is a whole movement towards natural ponds that don't use any active management - kind of like Walstad at scale.

I can tell you lots of stories about how a psychopathic, entitled neighbour ruined my family's life for a time to the point of getting restraining orders and finally selling our house - the bottom line is a) don't engage because it energizes them, and b) you have rights of your own and don't give away your power by simply acceding.

Make an effort to compromise because it looks good if you ever wind up in court - quite apart from the fact that a less powerful pump will pay for itself in the long term.
