    Hi all

As suggested by @Jwh in this post, I would like some help in how to organise our fish sections.

    JWH suggested the following:
    -----------------------
Please create some specific fish groups with sub groups e.g.

    Live bearers
    Guppies
    Mollies
    Swords

    Cichlids
    Angels
    Discus
    South and Central American
    African

    Bottom dwellers
    Polepterus
    Stingrays
    Catfish
    Loaches

    Etc, etc, etc

    ------------------------
We currently have the following layout:

    General Fish Discussions Forum

    Africa Forum
    Cichlids Forum
    Killifish Forum
    Tetras Forum
    Catfish Forum
    Other Forum

    South and Central America Forum
    Cichlids Forum
    Tetras Forum
    Catfish Forum
    Livebearers Forum
    Other Forum

    Asia Forum
    Cyprinids Forum
    Loaches Forum
    Labyrinth Fish Forum
    Catfish Forum
    Killifish Forum
    Asian Other Forum

    Discus Forum
    General Discus discussions Forum
    Problems with Discus Forum
    Feeding and Nutrition Forum
    Wild Discus Forum
    Tankmates Forum
    Discus Breeding Forum
    Parasite free keeping Forum
    Technical Forum

    Breeding Forum

    Diseases Forum
    --------------------------

That's a lot of forums and subsections and a couple of duplications. Is there any way we can compact it/merge sections whilst making it easy to navigate? Some of the subsections have very few posts in them.

Hi @Zebra Pleco, to cut down the number of forums, why not have category of fish and subforums for the area of origin instead of one forum per area with same categories on each forum?
    For example:

    Live bearers

    Cichlids
    Central and SA
    African
    Discus

    Ancient/unusual fish
    Arowanas
    knifefish
    polypterus
    lungfish
    others

    Bottom dwellers
    cats
    loaches
    stingrays
    plecos
    eels

    Cold water

    Others

    Just an idea..

    Great start. Add:

    Characins
    Cyprinids
    Labyrinth fish/gouramis and bettas

Can one accommodate nano-aquaria somewhere, as it seems to be very popular and keeps on evolving? And what about mega-aquaria for tankbusters?

I also think one can sink the breeding, feeding and related stuff into the relevant family group forum, as some of those forums see one post every six months. So the chance of a thread getting buried alive is not that great. Maybe keep it separate for the very active groups, e.g. discus.

    Hmm...

    1) Tropical Fish->"Breeding" + "Diseases" to General Fish Keeping
    2) Tropical Fish->Discus to South and Central America
    3) Advanced->Advanced Topics to Tropical Fish->Advanced Topics
    4) Freshwater Tank Discussions->"ID Needed" + "Blacklisted species" to Tropical Fish->*
    5) General->"Beginner Discussions" + "General Discussions" to Tropical Fish->General Fish Discussions->Beginner Discussions
    6) Change "General" topic to "Community"
    7) Find better space for General->Articles?

Ehh... let us know if you want more suggestions on this route? This could take a while! Hehehe. I think I've left it sort of complete? Have not paid any attention to forums below the "Tropical Fish" one and I think "Freshwater Tank Discussions" and "Forum Rules and Support" could do with some rethinking?

Or to extend the other idea above...

To provide a more complete list...
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_freshwater_aquarium_fish_species

    From the table of contents...

You can find sub-categories for each of these if you visit the link, not sure how complete or accurate it is.

One has to ask how many of us know which categories their fish belong in given the above list/s?

    Just some thoughts,

    Enjoy!
