    Hi Dirk,

I just wanted to check how toxic formaldehyde and malachite green chloride would be to after its been applied to a pond. The reason for asking is rather funny - i treated the pond today and the cat just decided she wanted to have a anti-flea dip in the stuff and fell in the pond. She is now obviously licking her self dry....

In the bottle the concentration is formaldehyde (<22%), and malachite green chloride (<0.2%)

    Thanks!

    Hi Henk,

OK, I think you need not worry too much about the cat.... Formaldehyde is pretty toxic but the concentration in the pond and the reaction of the formaldehyde with other things in the pond will have reduced the levels that I am pretty sure will not be dangerous. Malachite green levels will also be down but malachite green is not entirely harmless either and should not be consumed by other pets. If you cat was licking the concentrated stuff from the bottle off her fur, I would have told you to put her under the shower and flush her mouth, but this should be ok.

    Have a dop and relax,

    Dirk

Whatever you do, just don't think of Jik or something.....

Maybe OMO for whites (that is if she is white) or Omo Colours (that is if she is not white), but the vets will kill me for suggesting this (nog 'n grappie, don't take the oom too seriously).

Hey, this sounds like some or other apartheid story????

    Sick man!

    Holy carp Henk.

What product are you using that get's this concentration of formaldehyde? I thought this stuff was strictly controlled in SA!! Illegal imports? Or is it labelled "Formalglutexohyde"?

Set the spin cycle to slowly, the "reduced ironing" speed should be ok, so that you will only need a cool iron....

hahahahaha - no its perfectly legal. Unlike some of our competitors we don't hide stuff behind made up "trade" names. Same reason we don't import the Microbe Lift Prazi and Metro - needs to be registered with the Veterinary council.

Oh, and don't forget the fabric softener, and I don't think it contains formaldehyde either.

We must just not let Jenn and Tracy find out about this thread, because then you are in for BIG trouble.

    Kind regards,

    Dirk

Too late - I'm here :D You 2 should be ashamed! What will the new members think???? We dip our cats (or is it catfish) in formaldehyde and dye them green! I should report you both to the mods!!!!! You should be banned for a week and then do community service hand-feeding pre-digested oak leaves to earthworms.

Henk, a little time will fade the colour so you can save the electricity you would use putting the cat into the wash machine. Just think of what it would look like if it were a white cat!!

Thought I'd share my experience with cats in ponds - this is when my cat tried to catch a bird. Note - he did not come out green ;) This is when I discovered cats can walk on water.

    Hi Henk,

Don't tell me I did not warn you that Jenn was going to find out about your methods.

    Hi Jenn,

I apologize most sincerely and will not advise this again.

But I did enjoy your pics and had a good laugh!

    Kind regards,

    Dirk

    How to wash a cat
    1. Put both lids of the toilet up and add 1/8 cup of pet shampoo to the water in the bowl...
    2. Pick up the cat and soothe him while you carry him towards the bathroom.
    3. In one smooth movement put the cat in the toilet and close the lid. You may need to stand on the lid.
    4. At this point the cat will self agitate and make ample suds. Never mind the noises that come from the toilet, the cat is actually enjoying this!
    5. Flush the toilet three or four times. This provides a 'Power-Wash' and 'Rinse'.
    6. Have someone open the front door of your home. Be sure that there are no people between the bathroom and the front door.
    7. Stand well back, behind the toilet as far as you can, and quickly lift the lid.
    8. The cat will rocket out of the toilet, streak through the bathroom, and run outside where he will dry himself off.
    9. Both the toilet and the cat will be sparkling clean.

    Yours Sincerely,

    The Dog

I suppose this method doesn't work so well with smaller cats!! Might have to call up your local municipality to find it :p

Hahahaha... I can just picture that... "self agitate" is a bit of an understatement...
