What is it that you are after? Do you want a nutrient rich substrate, or one high in iron?

@Sean J, I suppose something that is an all rounder? I'm not looking for something specific, just a good addition to my substrate for the plants i get.

you can mix in some dark aswell, it is richer in calcium and magnesium that the "normal" flourite (which is rich in iron and potassium)

last time i had a look at this, the best was to use the Dark, onyx sand and the normal one ( i think) by doing this, you are using them all to cover most of the things you need, as said, they are a bit different in the mineral composition.

    Thanks guys.

hmmmm....okay I'll take a dark back and swop it for a normal one then. They didn't have the normal one in stock (only the dark, red and black)....will just ask them to order it! Is the onyx sand just as expensive as the flourite?

Another question: How long will flourite last? I have dark flourite in my tank for more than a year now. Do I need to change it sometime?
