The petshops mostly do not stock aquatic mosses and you need to get them from someone on the forum.

I am almost to scarred too say this because this will cause a rush, but I have a variety of different mosses, Christmas, flame, java, taiwan, Singapore and a few more, and I could perhaps put some into the post for you. Contact me by PM.

    Kind regards,

    Dirk

    Sorry for thread hijack!
Is it possible to scrape common moss of the pavement and grow it in an aquarium?

    rudig,

this is a serious thread hijack, go and sit on the pavement please and that is the only place where those mosses will grow, period!

Sorry all of you guys that PMed me, I have had a stressful week, and could not reply.

Just for those that asked what I have, I can report as follows:

Taiwan moss and flame moss, I have a normal bucket full of each, so I can supply about fist sized amounts at say R20.

True Singapore moss, which grows very slowly, I can supply about golfball sized amounts at R20.

Christmas moss, I have about a 1/2 bucket full and can supply fist sized amounts at R20.

Fissidens borgneri, which is a Fissidens from South Africa, and which some randoms are now trading with on APSA, I can supply amounts that are about the size of a R5 coin at R20. This is an extremely slow growing moss which requires a lot of care and which attaches itself nicely to logs or rocks.

I can send these mosses by insured parcel post which gets to most places in SA within a week if not less, and costs will be R30 including packaging.

Please work out what you might want and send me your order and then I can send this off next week.

    Kind regards,

    Dirk

For anybody taking Dirk up on his generous offer - please keep the mosses separate, I have made the mistake of getting moss in the past, not understanding how / what makes it grow well and ended with green stuff that I could not identify or recall what moss is what since most ended in the same tank on the same peace of driftwood. Lesson learned.

    Hi Ferdie,

Good to hear from you. Ferdie makes a VERY valid point here. I only keep one type of moss per aquarium, in some larger aquaria I might have two types of moss, but only of the tank is large enough that I can put separate clumps on opposite sides of the tank.

Another problem is that Singapore moss grows very slowly and if you keep it with say Taiwan moss, which grows very quickly, the Taiwan moss will just simply outgrow the Singapore and before you know it the Singapore moss will be gone.

    Kind regards,

    Dirk
