    Hi Guys

    Over the weekend one of my filter a Fluval 303 tipped over and the whole bottom part cracked loose in a perfect sirkel.

    I want to know if this can be repaired or a mod done or if someone maybe has an Fluval 303 casing for me.

    Thanks

    IMO I suppose you could seal it and fix it. Use some bostic marine and silicone the broken part back in??? OR go with what zoom said.

    can try that but think the pressure migh cause this to be a tuff fix though.

    Thought of moulding a new plastic part maybe over half the canister

    sorry if i hijack this thread, but it's pointless me starting a new 1 with the same title lol. I recently bought a fluval 404 from someoen (secondhand) and it started leaking just under the handle clips. I have tried everything, even put Vaseline on the oring to see if it would work, but to no avail. Hell, i even broke the handle clips:(, therefore i had to get new 1's from the LPS, now it leaks even faster:(.

    Should i just buy a new O ring?

    @lydodd - Pratleys is something I reach for in something like this... but look @ their steel weld one....Have used that to fix many a leak on high pressure systems + it's not as brittle as the standard setting one... Also get a quote from your LPS for a new one - you might be surprised to find its cheaper than you think...

    @snail...lol - new O-ring dude...

    Definitely agree with azurekoi, I've used Pratleys Steel many times for repairs. Just remember that all resin based glues work by mass, not penetration. Also. both surfaces to be glued must be spotlessly clean and SUPER DRY! It helps to roughen both surfaces and the surrounding 1cm of the canister body and bottom, inside and outside with 320 grit water paper. Then clean both surfaces with Rubbing Alcohol... (available from any chemist.) You're going to have to work fast once you mix the glue, as you have about 10 min before the stuff begins to harden. (This is on a cold day. On a hot day, you've got about 5 min working time) Put the glue into the crack and spread some more on the 1cm surrounding that you sanded. Then KEEP IT STILL until it hardens (20 to 45min.) DON'T fill or use the filter for a full 24 hours as this is how long it takes to cure fully. After 24 hours, rinse the filter out with clean tap water, and you should be able to use it again. This should be considered as a temporary repair. I'd go to my LPS and price a replacement ASAP...

    Pratleys putty and pratley's steel will definitely NOT break under the pressure of a canister. You know the picture of the Pratleys putty holding that big grader in the air... their claim to fame... the general consumer may actually think it's a made up picture to sell the product... but in actual fact this was a real test. 2 plates of 75mm diameter were literally GLUED together using 1 standard Pratleys steel. The one plate was welded to the bulldozer, and the other plate to the crane's chain.
    The PA I had 2 years ago was actually the secretary to Mr. Pratley here in Roodepoort. She says they did the same test whilst applying the putty and letting the putty dry under water... and they got the same results.

    Pratley's Putty is one of the few COMPLETELY SA made products that is available worldwide because of it's amazing abilities.
