Hey guys i'm interested to find out how the couriers ship fish...i.e from JHB to CT.

If I place an order...does the courier rock up at my door with a plastic bag like from the LFS with my fish in his hand? Do they use special containers? Whats the survival rate of having fish moved from JHB to CT?

Any tips for the noobs with regard to ordering fish from distance suppliers?

As far as I know the courier doesn't do anything, it's up to you to sort it out.

Normally it's the same bag as from the LFS, but also put inside a foamalite container.

Kribs - generally speaking, the fish are bagged as per your LFS but with Oxygen. Then sometimes wrapped with newspaper and then bagged again. This is placed in a styrofoam container and then in a cardboard box. If necessary heat packs are used..

I've also seen a shipment land at the LFS (presumable international imports) that has little bags of zeolite in them to absorb the ammonia during the trip.

So is this a case of livestock turning into consumables?

i would say the best option is to ship it airport to airport with Express Air.... then you are incharge of how fast you get them home and into a tank
