Good day to all members. My question today, is directed at fish tank backgrounds.

Recently I have been watching a lot of videos on YouTube, with regards to painting the back and/or sides of a fish tank, for display purposes. 99% of these videos have highly recommended the use of Acrylic paint when painting a fish tank.

However, many people that I have spoken to, advise against the use of Acrylic paint & suggest using an enamel/oil based paint.

I have a 4ft tank, which I want to paint the back & sides of, since I intend on putting in some brilliant lighting to bring out the colors of my fish & to grow my plants.

Please can someone out there, that has personally painted their own tank, point me in the right direction as to what paint I should use?

    Thank you:)

Plastidip is perhaps a better option as it can be easily peeled off if ever you want to do something different?

I've used acrylic paint bought from PNA on my tanks holds up fine as long as you don't wet it. Once wet it bubbles up and then peels off

    Frosted with backlighting sounds nice.
I used to have a black vinyl background on the 65L but it made the tank look very gloomy so I removed it.

yep, thats what im finding on my 54l, i have accepted the spiderwood will keep making it blackwater for ages, but the tannins in the water with the matt black backing is very gloomy. Seeing the bavklit shrimp tank under it illustrates that massively. considering dropping a submersible light inside the tank at the back for ambient behind the swords and vallis when they grow in.
