    Hey guys

I'm heading up to Jhb this weekend and was hoping someone can advise me as to where I might get Siamese Algae Eaters, Crowntail Bettas and live Daphnia in the Jhb/Ptr area?

I'll go have a look at Hillfox for the daphnia.

Also pm Dolphin, just waiting for his reply. Where is he located though?

Are you sure this is the TRUE SAE this is one of the most misnamed fish out there. Often the flying fox is called a SAE. Which lfs cause i no my pet shops dont have it.:p

Ok wen i went SAE "hunting" i took this with me http://www.aquatic-gardeners.org/cyprinid.html this details everything all the differences between CAE, SAE, True SAE and False SAE if your serious about getting a TRUE SAE take this along it will save you lots of time and make identification very easy and you will soon realise this is a trully elusive fish. Heres some pics as well to show how close they all look

Let me know thanks. The worst is that if its a small flying fox it looks exactly the same as a SAE and the worst part about that is that the wrong fish is double the size and aggresive as opposed to the 15cm max docile natured SAE

Thanks guys. Will go looking and asking anywhere I see a pet shop. Locally I can also get the CAE but they also become somewhat aggressive/territirial later in life.

Thank you snyper for the shop info. Managed to 'save' a beautiful crowntail betta from the one shop you mentioned. Unfortunately not one of the shops I visited had the SAEs or live daphnia I was looking for.

No problem they do have stunning bettas there. Sorry about that SAE about a month ago i spent an almost an entire day driving to every lfs i know to look for one cause very few lfs even know what your talking about. I think give dolphin a shout he would be your best bet to source a SAE

Update: my betta is doing excellent! Was a bit shy and hiding behind my filter pump but after coming out he started eating 1st day in the tank.

Just one question, where does your betta sleep? I read somewhere about a 'betta hamock' and googling this found it to be a plastic leaf that you stick to the side of the glass close to the surfice for the betta to apparently rest on. Is this worthwhile or onother gimmick?

Mine sleeps on his new driftwood also on his "bedrock" a little rock structured like a hammock close to the surface. The amazons work well kellys betta sleep in her vallis and ludwigia and give the amazon a miss at the moment its messing up the plants a bit. mine actually hovers on the dwarf hairgrass. Those betta hammocks do work but apperently they rust i was reading up on them today. Here is a pic of my scaped nano u can see the driftwood he likes resting on the bottom and the top of it and the rock thats on another rock and the filter - "bedrock". He moves quite gracefully through the grass as well. Enjoy your betta they make awesome pets.
