Fish ID needed

Hi Guys, i need to find out what fish this is,
Iv had it since restarting my old tank, Got it from LPS by mistake,by mistake i mean i had purchased a few zebra danios and lo and behold i find this in there.
its been with me ever since. Very peaceful fish though.

Its sort of silvery in color , long bit yellowy fins its also really thin, and a very active.With a pointy head

I cannot quite remember the Scientific name, but its something like Iritheana Werneri? I'll try and find it for you!

Iv had this fish for so long not knowing what it was, I purchased it (well didnt know i was buying it) with Zebra danios and this came in the packet.
Reason why its special to me was when i put it in the tank, my zebras picked on it and sort of ate his fins,At that time his fins wernt that long and he was alot smaller. He almost died due to the fin nipping, so i nursed it to health and have been watching is fins grow ever since. Strangly the other fish seem to just ignore him and swim around.
Its really peacefull , keeps to himself,sometimes swims follows the larger fish around while he swims with the current.
Always come to the glass when someones around.

Do thay grow large? and does he need special care?

 

Would it be wise for me to move him (he is alone) to the larger tank? He currently lives with active fish such as the zebra dano, 2 small angel fish, some swordtails,and golfish. In a small say 80 ltr tank.
The tank i want to put him in would be the 3 discus , a few cory catfish and around 20 (i think) neon tetras.
Would it be safe for him in there? the current is not as strong though.

Ok, just a few comments....

Firstly, the Threadfin rainbow doesn't grow large. It maybe grows to 5cm at most. They do not need any extra special requirements, but they should not be kept with fish that will be tempted to nibble fins (as you found out). Most fin nippers are Barbs or Tetras, but danios and even guppies can nip away! The strange thing is that some fish that are known for being terrible fin nippers, have never been a problem in my tanks! Serpae Tetras are one such fish, but I've never seen any of mine nipping at any other fishes fins!

Ok, next... Discus and Neons should not be kept together as they require very different water temperatures. Neons prefer cooler water at around 24'C, where as Discus prefer much warmer waters at around 29'C to 31'C. Cardinals are very similar to neons visually, but they are much more robust, and can handle higher temps, but even then, 30'C will affect them, and shorten their life span!

Also, your Angels will grow too big for that 80L tank in no time! They cannot be kept in there for too long.

I do not know enough about Cory's to state which temps they are happy with?

Anyhow, to try and answer your question, the Threadfin would probably prefer the other tank, away from the fin nippers, but would not be happy in the Temp those Discus require. I would also be a little concerned that the Discus, once fully grown, may eat the Threadfin? I would think not, but Discus easily make neons and similar sized fish disappear!

And then finally, Threadfins like to be in groups, so if you are able to source some more, it would greatly benefit the one you have!
