Hi guys, i have a few fish that I need to get rid off. Excuse the bad pics, but it should give you an idea of what they look like.

    I have the following:
2 x Snake skin Discus (around 6-7cm, might be a little bigger) - R300 for both
    2 x Chochlate Cichlids (around 8cm) - R 60 for both
    9 x Congo Tetras ( 4 males and 5 females - fully grown) - R200 for the school

I got one discus as a gift a while ago - and the plan was to get him/her some friends, but in all honesty, I cannot really afford them at this stage, nor give them the correct care. So rather than enjoying them - i just stress about them.

The Congo's are really beautiful and I hate to sell them, but they are just taking up to much space.

I live in Brackenfell and the fish is for pick-up only.

    Thanks
    Morné

Do you keep the Kribs with the Congo tetras? If so, do they get on ok? Do the tetras eat the Krib fry and do the Kribs harass the Congos excessively? The reason I ask is that I have Kribs and I'm thinking of getting one of the African tetras to put in with them. Congos seem to the only ones available and they're really pretty.

Last question, promise! Why so many Congo tetras - did you breed them?

Hi Jenn. No, the Congos and Kribs are not in the same tank. I have a tank with a lot of Plattys/swordtails and Kribs. There is always small Plattys that is showing up as they are hiding between the plants. The Kribs with the platys is ranging in size from around 8mm to 30mm. Some fry will always survive if there is enough hiding place. I havent tried breeding them yet as they are in my community tank but with all the plants I have in they may. A shool of them looks way nicer than just a few.

Kribs are some of the best parents, but will be a "problem" to toher fish if they start breeding and the tank is small. They will keep a small teritory to themself and will chase bigger fish away. If they are not breeding they are awsome fish for a comunity tank. My opinion anyway.

@ Gregorian - no sorry - I'm really not interested in Kribs

@Jenn - Gregorian might be able to answer the question about the Krips and Congos better than me, but I don't think keeping the two together should be a problem. Kribs are as far as I know pretty good at protection and the Congos aren't really brave fish, if you know what I mean.

Congos really look best when you have a couple of them together and like most tetras they prefer to be in a school of at least 6. They really are awesome fish, but the males can be up to 10cm long and therefor takes up quite a bit of space in a community tank.

Viskop.... How long have you had the Congo's, and how big were they when you first got them?

    Cheers
    G!

They were around 4-5 cm if I remember correctly.

I bought them in two batches - first lot was on a whim and when they started to mature, i wanted more. I honestly can't remember when I bought them but it is less than a year ago since I bought the first few.

@viskop If I was in your area I would take the Congos - I think they're beautiful. I can't believe they haven't been snapped up yet. I think they are extremely desirable :)

@Gregorian My Kribs have bred in a community tank - they terrorise the other fish - but just to keep them in their place. Not sure what they would do if the other fish were more aggressive.

Ok - just to clarify - the sizes I have given to the fish is from nose to the start of the tailfin, and I want R300 for both discus - not R300 each.
