    Hi guys,

So i was exited to find out that a particular LFS here in Cape Town got in a bunch of HC yesterday (Saturday). I went through to find that they were charging R150 for a tub that contained about 2cmx2cm and R250 for a tub with maybe about 2cm x 6cm (this a guessing and could be off).

I thought it was a bit steep, but since im still very new to planted aquaria i cant really say. My question is this, is that a normal price i can expect to pay and does anyone know where i can find any HC (they were sold out by this afternoon, they had about 10-15 tubs in total).

    Wow, that's very steep!

I buy mine one a wire mesh of 4 x 4 and pay something like R40 or R60.

Can't help with where you can find it on that side unfortunately.

The reason they're expensive in those tubs is because they are completely sterile. The Anubias plant range is pricey. It all comes from Italy. It's all based in euro.

But the advantage of tissue cultured plants is that they are completely sterile. That means free from algae, bacteria, fungus and nasty chemicals. They do not need to be treated with chemicals to remove bugs and nasty things, so they are 100% safe with all types of aquarium creatures.

With the exchange rate the way it is and the fact that the shop also has to make some thing of it the price is correct. What you can do is ask on this forum if any has some that is growing in there tank to share with you however, as @Seanj said you are paying for some really good quality plants.

Really guys, that's 6 times the "going" rate?!

In how much of a better condition can it be to warrant such a huge difference in price?

Both the HC and HM that I buy on the wire mesh are squeaky clean and in a very good condition. It also makes for easy planting.
