hey guys so I really need your help, im at my wits end, this is Triton my new boy, ive had him for a few months now and he has developed this tail problem he is a halfmoon. ive done water changes dosed tetra general med twice and im currently treating with rooibos but it just seems to be getting worse rather than better. theres nothing in the tank that he could be shredding his fins on and the only other fish in here are rosy loaches which i dont think would be fin nipping though im not sure? he is perfectly healthy otherwise eats like a pig and is currently very busy constructing a nest. ive tested the water and the parameters are fine though i think i'll be getting a ph kit today so i can check that, me using test kits! thats how desperate i am! hes active and curious kept trying to look at the camera head on, was really difficult to get pics of him from the side so i dont know. hes fed on ocean nutrition and once a week abit of freeze dried brine shrimp or tubifix worms neither of which his too crazy about. they also get live daphnia or artemia whenever i can get my hands on it. i do a 20% water change once a week. any ideas what could be causing this?

@windfire that looks like a case of heavy fin nipping. My one halfmoon is doing it as well about once a month I found he does that - I think its a case of the tail becoming to heavy to swim with so he trims it down. If you look at the other fins, they look good so its not finrot.

Keep the water clean, just add tea - stop the meds. It will come and go unfortunately. We call it the monthly hair cut :p

yea , i agree, it does not look like fin rot. it looks like shredded fins from something in the tank or himself.
