    Hi all

    Just a quick one,

I need to find out how to prevent a internal pump (cant remember brand) 200-400L flow (also cant remember)
and a Eheim pick up 2012 (designed for 200L) to suck up fry's

If i put a mesh around them, wouldnt the pump try suck the mesh in and all the stuff that goes with it be stuck
on the mesh and prevent flow

or do i take out the internal pump (bigger holes) and leave the pick up filter
but the pick up filter also has holes at the bottom.

if anyone can answer please let me know

If you can cut a household sponge to fit around the intake it would work....

If you did decide to user sponge then it would need to be open cell like used here PIMP your HOB

What I have done in the past for these types of filters grabbed a filter sock added ceramics to then placed the pump in the middle of the media, media keeps the sock from being sucked into the pump or reduces the chance to get clogged up.

One should try not to limit a pump's intake.
So, in order to filter what goes into the intake without impeding flow you need more surface area.
Try a 5 litre ice cream container punctured all around (can use a soldering iron) and a slit for the cable.

Good luck! Show us pictures of what you did :)

Just get a sponge and put it over the intake of the filters. This also lengthens periods between cleaning filters as a lot of muck is caught at the sponge. Check here

I am going to go out and buy me some big sponges and cut a big hole out in the middle so the pump is not going to have any stress
sucking the water up. I guess it will have to support itself while in the water as the 2x filters are right next to each other and more to the top of the tank.
Still to test it out still.

I took the 5L ice cream tub into consideration but wont be able to float on its own, and I leave the bucket too high with smaller holes, the water gets drained too quick
inside the bucket. Then if I did cut it open (theory) the small fry will still be able to enter.
