    Hi guys

I have just started setting up a platform filter for my new betta setup and was wondering do the work in a particular order like canisters? Either top down or bottom up? This would obviously affect the order of filter media. Im putting in batting bio balls and AC whats your take on the order

Sounds good - am I right in asuming water in the top and out the bottom? Sorta like a trickle tower? If you got the water going in the bottom and gravity falling back to tank from the top,I would reverse the way you pack the media... Always mechanical filtration 1st,the biological...

I'd say from bottom up - sponge, filter floss (or just filter floss) and ceramic /bio balls / large gravel / marbles on top to keep in form floating around.

This is just the newer version/name for the old "corner filter".
It can be a simple mechanical filter(with filter-floss), or even have some biological filter properties, if correctly packed with the proper filter media (foam and bio-beads/noodles).
The water is drawn through the filter medium, down, and out the outlet, using air - like the old under gravel filters.
Most people use bio-beads(Siporax) as the bottom layer, for weight. Then you can have a small piece of open cell foam on top of that, with the filter-floss as the top layer, to catch the larger particles. Filter-floss, was originally designed for this type of filter!
It is a good filter to use in 1 and 2 foot breeding tanks, and the design is nearly as old as UGF!
The more modern sponge filters, are better/easier, in my opinion, but I do use them, as there are some of our older members, that also swear by them!

@f-fish, if you arrange the filter-media, as I have described above, the cleaner water go over the ceramic bio-media,that is at the bottom, and it is also not top-heavy. It is also easier to clean/replace the filter-floss, at the top, without disturbing the rest of the media below that.
