Hi guys, my first post here. My cousin gave me a second hand filter and fish, and we don't have the manuals...

So i need help installing it etc.

The filter has one opening, to which an attatchement adds another. So i have 2 opening's that lead into one, get what im saying? I don't know if i need to add a pipe, and if the pipe needs to be submerged or not. The model is a ViaAqua 80FP...

    Thanks :)

    Hi gee

That is a normal internal filter.

You need to put it under water completely.
The big hole is where the water comes out and let it flow
around the aquarium. The second little hole on the big outlet is
called a ventri. You need to put a little plastic pipe like in the picture
on it and let the end of the pipe stick out the top of the water in the air.
Now if you turn the filter on you will see little bubbles in you stream and this is caused
by the little pipe outside the watera. P.S the small litlle pipe on the big one
    needs to show upward.

Hope this clears things a bit.

OK, cool. So the big opening must be under water, and the small opening must connect to the pipe on top of the water? Thanks man!

    Hi Gee
The WHOLE filter must be under water and only the the little white pipe
    sticking out.

Terrible filters those, but as has been said, the entire filter should be submerged and installed approximately three fingers from the substrate, with only the airtube out of water.

Thanks for all the help guys! Really appreciate it... I have quite a small tank. And i have a Guppy and some other weird fish that i bought today. Must the filter setting be on the + or -? How often does it have to work?

Filter as much to the + as possible without creating too much current in the tank
    Filter must be on 24/7

Go read my articles in the article section of the forum. I have some basic beginner articles you can read up on.

@gee_911 One word of advice, never buy fish without doing research on them first. Not all fish can be kept together. They need different types of water, some are aggressive, some needs special food etc.

The black pipe where the water exits are loose and you can turn that around. Normally the little entrance for the white pipe will point upwards.

Do you have a heater for this little tank? How big (in cm) is your tank?

Post a pic of the second fish, then we can help identify it for you.

Noisy and suction cups don't hold.

On that particular model, or in general?

I've never had any problems with any of my internal filters suction cups, or noise level. I find them extremely effective on smaller tanks.

It is possible that mine may have been out of water too long and the suction cups then hardened, but this will happen with all and from what I can remember, you can't easily replace the suction cups on these. I've often found my other internals also dangling by the power cord, rattling up on the glass. I just don't like internals and find hang on filters better.

I would say maybe like 15x30cm, probably slightly bigger.... Yes i have a heater, I have been told by everyone to keep it at 26 degrees, for my two fish. I usually do tons of research before i buy stuff, but the Guppy was a gift, and so was the other fish, my cousin said that they should be just fine with each other, and they have been. The only problem i have, is the new fish is really afraid of me, and whenever i try to feed it, it just hides away, and my Guppy gets all the food. I will try upload a pic tomorrow. Thanks for the reply :)

    +1 on internal filters.

my 30cm betta nano has a 300l/h internal filter and it works like a dream. I do find the suction cups come undone if I have them too close to the silicone in the corner of the tank.
It was a little noisy for a short while until all the air in the filter was expelled.
