    Hello everyone!
I've been putting off typing up an introduction because I haven't had a chance to use my laptop; and phones are awful for typing...

    On forums, I'm Figeth.
In real life, I'm a BSc botany/microbiology student with UNISA (read that as "I spend all day at home, studying, stressing, and staring at fish). I'm interested in almost everything. Most consistently, I love plants, fish, and baking.

    My "Tanks":
    • A 25 000 L natural pool stocked with 12 butterfly koi, tons of snails, and some dragonfly nymphs that ate the plecos I added.
    • A 2 500 L "pond" (it's a bathtub-part of the filter section of the natural pool) stocked with guppies, more snails, and a variety of tiny zoological miracles (bugs).
    • A 37 L tank (at last, the indoor stuff!) stocked with the most gorgeous of my male guppies, various neocaridina shrimp, and a pair of assassin snails (guess what those pool snails are for...).
    • A 50 L tank for my lovely lady guppies and their tiny progeny. (NOTE: female guppies and shrimp don't mix well. Or snails either, my females are ~6cm and eat EVERYTHING.)
    • A little 7 L maternity tank so the lovely ladies can birth in peace and not eat their tiny progeny...

That's all folks, see you around!

And you guys aren't allowed to see the other tanks because they aren't pretty enough yet. Also, I got 4 bristle-nose plecos and an eel-type loach last night! (Community whatsapp groups are awesome.)

Natural pool - love it ... whose idea was it, do you guys still swim in it, what pump are you using to circulate and does it run 24x7,

We seldom get to see them on TASA and they have such great potential and are a great alternative to filling a pool up - not even sure why people still build swimming pools these days.

    Later Ferdie

It was my parent's idea, but they went off to sail the world so I'm in charge of the pool. We still swim in it, in summer, the water gets pumped through tubes on the roof to heat up so it can reach 25 degrees! To circulate it, the pool pump, that has a sand filter, but other than that, all the filtration is done by the plant beds. The pump runs from 9am to 5pm.

The walls are green with algae but the water is clear. Cats drink it without issue (so did my mom once). The koi love it, as soon as they hear you coming they start speeding around. Then come up for a snack lol

The koi are new additions actually, only been in for a month or two!

I only started keeping guppies this year.

This is the female guppy tank (along with the bristlenose plecos and eel-type loach). Going to make a plan today to get the cloudiness out

Awesome! Have those two guppies (that came from @Hawk via me) dropped fry yet?

Also, you're welcome to come and get some plant trimmings from me. I can spare some water sprite and perhaps some stem plants. Won't be much but it might get you going and they'll grow fast.

The one has, they're all safe in the nursery.
It would be lovely to get some plant trimmings from you! At the moment I have a litre of java moss if you'd like some lol

PS re the cloudy water in the female guppy tank: how fine/coarse is the sand, and did you remember to rinse it thoroughly?

Very fine sand (I chose it with the loach in mind), I did rinse it but it still clouded up. I've made a plan though, got some kariba weed and water lettuce from a local wetland to filter out the dust. I will destroy them once they've served their purpose.
