She still has most of her fins but here back main swimming or tail is almost completely bitten of,i have placed her in a bucket with a filter and an air pump to see if she recovers, she can't swim right, everytime she tries she faces upwards,is there anyway of speeding up her recovery or if she is going to make it?

Yeah sorry if my post gave you a negative thought. I dont deal with big fish so the
chances are much higher in your case. Spot the culprit and sort him/her out!

Put her in a hospital tank and turn the heater up to 29C.
Tetra also makes a med that help with cell repair and recovery of the slime coat, not sure what it is called.

She still eats since she can only swim upwards, she still has her appetite.

Convicts are hardy fish but i have never had one hurt this badly,i unfortunately can't remove the culprits because they are a breeding pair of convicts and have already laid eggs.

i don't have a spare tank yet so i'm keeping her in a bucket which is placed in the tanks slightly below the water level.

Will go see the LFS for medication.

I forgot the brand but ask for stress coat.

it will rejuvinate the slime layer and aid recovery !

you can't speed up the healing process but you can provide the best conditions for it to take place .

I recommed live foods and protein rich foods .
    air stone for water movement
    good temperature
    and keep lights switched off

    cheers

add lots of Aquarium salt to the water , at least 1 teaspoon per 5L.

Bloodworms arent a good source of nutrition . Try get her to eat something better. I only use bloodworm to clean out the fish insides

once again only 3 or 4 posts in this thread ACTUALLY adds something of value...

You need to keep an eye on the wound as there is a very good chance of a fungus taking hold.

I would agree to this method IF done in a certain method. You need to remember that tropical fish are FRESH WATER FISH, and if they are placed in a solution that has a higher osmostic pressure than their internal organs, the water INSIDE the fish starts to get removed from the fish through osmosis. If you leave the fish in salt water permanently, you will dehydrate the fish as all the water in the fish will leave the fish.

A salt water bath is therefore my better preferred option. Make the solution, (I use 1tsp per 5litres AQUARIUM water), put the fish in there for five minutes, and then return the fish to the hospital tank. (or the hospital bucket in this case). The salt will help keep any wounds clean, and will prevent further damage. However the problem comes that with this movement of the fish, sometimes the stress of catching the fish can cause the death faster.

I agree with the stress coat, it is made by Seachem. Very good product. There are other generics available on the market, but in my honest opinion, not worth much.
