female betta gills flaring during feeding

    hi everyone

    so ive had a female betta for almost 2 months now. all was fine up until a week ago. when it comes to feeding time she frantically grabs the first piece of food and looks as though she takes in alot of air at the same time causing her gills to expand. she then tries to eat the rest of the food but cannot take anymore in until she lets go of the air thats currently in her gills. it is the first time i am experiencing behavior like this. is it something to worry about or not at all?
    is there perhaps something wrong with her gills? an infection of some sort? other than during feeding time all is normal
