I've got a female Betta that was given to me.... I had nowhere else to put her so I placed her with my Apisto's and Pleco in my 3ft tank (see pics of it in full tank shots section).

All was fine for the first month with maybe one minor confrontation per day. However in the last two days she's coloured up alot and with that has started flaring at my Male Apisto. Her aggression is worse than my Male Betta??

I've had to isolate her to a breeding net in the tank but its really not ideal. Is there anyway I can curb this aggression or must I look for a new home for her?? She really is beautiful and finding decent coloured females is hard enough.

    Any advice appreciated!:wondering:

Maybe she's neither a she, nor a he...

Kiazer, she might be looking for a mate. I don't know that female Beta's become territorial... as far as I thought, it was the males who were the aggro ones.

That being said.... I had to get rid of my rams (which are a generally docile, yet active fish) because he did not like the male Apisto.

Looks like you were spot on.... apparently you get a Plakat Male who has shortened fins, to differentiate you need to look for the white ovipositer (excuse the spelling) which mine doesnt have.

What eluded me to the fact that it may be a male is when I found a bubble nest in the breeding net.

The SHE is more than likely a HE.

Any chance of the fins badly nipped before given to you and just starting to regrow?
