    Hi
I`ve kept some carnivourous plants and a few months ago bought some mealworms to feed them. The worms increased rapitly and now I have A LOT of them. Is it possible to feed some of them to my fish as a treat? Or would it harm them? I don`t want to feed them something bad.
    Thanks!

    Hi

I also have a whole lot of the worms.. Feeding them once a week.

The only problem I get is that the outer shell is too hard for small species to consume, so what I do is cut the worms into halves and then feed it. The fish then sucks the inners out leaving the exo-skeleton.

They are very high in protien. If it is the raining season again, you can feed flying termites (Rysmiere) as well. Very good to get your fish in optimum condition

Or you can cut them into halves and squeesh out the inners inside the tank against the glass. Fish will go crazy!!

Wow, great ideas! In winter I stop putting chlorine in the pool and turn it into a mosquito larvae farm. Got a good crop today :)

You can wait till the meal worms shed then there a pail white and soft and then most fish will be able to eat them.

Do you cut the worms in half for small fish like guppies, bettas, ect? I got a bunch of rummy nose tetras, black widows and x-ray tetras and they go crazy each time I get near the tank. They think they`ll get food (again) Do you think they will enjoy the cut-up meal worms?

Yip, thats perfect for small species like that. If you don't want the skin afterwards floating around, squeesh the halves against the glass

Sometimes I find the pale worms. If you think the worms are good for the fish (as a treat) I`ll feed them as soon as I find pale worms.
Another question: Some of the worms are very small so the fit inside the fish mouth but they have a hard shell. Can I feed the worms just like that or should I cut them up or wait for them to shed?
    Thanks

They will spew out the worm if its not cut. They cannot get through the outer shell. Even if its still a small worm. Cut them is the best option

I just fed a small pale worm to my white betta! He looked at it. And then he swallowed it! I think he liked and I think he wants more but if I give him more, he would be overfed... He`ll just have to wait a few days before he can get another one... My rummy noses, x-rays, and black widows will get a meal worm or two tomorrow.

@bees Do you mean I must post pictures of the carnivourous plants? I will open a new thread under Other pets (is carnivourous plants classifed as other pets????) or General Off-Topic.

Ooh okay cool to know you can feed the fish mealworms! We buy them for our bearded dragon (also only a treat as they're very fatty and don't have the right mineral ratios for frequent feeding) and they seem to live forever. I was thinking you can just throw a handful in a blender or a coffee grinder if you don't want to squeeze them all out, but I guess then the exoskeletons will be all over the tank and in the filter.

I did a 2 week test where I fed about 30 meal worms a day to my 2 veija( synspilum and zonatus) my frontosa and flowerhorn. They all loved it and saw great colour and growth. So go ahead only down fall is the shells floating on the top of tank after each feed.
