    Hi everyone,

About 4 weeks ago my dear English budgerigar Montgomery(also known fondly as Monty or Mon Mon) passed away. His mate, Taz(also known as Tazzy or Tazzy Mac Two), died the next day due to extreme depression. I'm surprised I have not died yet.

When you think of the word budgerigar, you think cute little crazy ball of fun. Not that important to humans and a general nuisance to neighbors. Not Monty...

Montgomery, born on the 20th of January 2009 and died on the 26th of July 2011.. the day I received him in 2009.

July 27th 2009: He was sitting on my finger and my shoulder.
July 28th 2009: I introduced him to his new cage.
August 2009: Was fully settled in his cage and was used to all the surroundings.
December 2009: I dared to try something and took him out to one of the local restaurants for an outing. He stayed with me and drew so much attention.
February 2010: He became ill. I took him to the vet and was diagnosed with something called Motor Nerve Syndrome or something. I remember crying myself to sleep, hoping he would be ok.
April 2010: He recovered but still that element hung in him throughout his life. I was grateful he was still alive.
July 2010: We were chased out of Wimpy because it is"against regulations to bring pets into this restaurant" and I remember laughing with him because I said that Monty was probably 10 times cleaner than the waitresses and cooks anyway(obviously this was said to myself only).
December 2010: He was terrorized by the Australian part of the family and his condition started degrading.
January 2011: I started him on vitamins which improved his feathers and condition.
February 2011: I got him a "girlfriend" named Taz but keep her in a separate room.
March 2011: I introduced Taz to Monty and they got along so well from the start.
June 2011: I noticed Monty started slowing down and knew that having Tazzy would help him.
July 26th 2011: Montgomery passed away.

Here is a tribute I wrote "to" Monty before I buried him:

    Dearest Monty,

When I got you, it was a miracle and a dazzling honor to get you. I came wanting a cobalt, but I saw you.

Monty, you were and still are a shining light. A pillar of greatness. A ball of hope.

Monty, you were a delight right from the start. Trained in one day to sit upon my finger and whistle a tune. You trusted me and I trusted you.

At times I nearly lost you but managed to get you right. At times when I needed you, I held you and cherished you as my closest friend and deflector of all bad.

You entertained me and I seemed to entertain you. The way your eyes lit up when I brought you your millet spray was amazing.

I have been your protecter since you were diagnosed with your motor nerves syndrome and have been dreading the day it would take you. But you fought it my boy... you fought it.

Takes me back to the day I got you and signed your name off. The date you were born alone... was a miracle. We shared a birthday. I knew since then... that we were meant to be.

You have been with me everywhere. That bar where the cat nearly got you. The restaurant were you jumped on the waitress and she ran away screaming... with you still upon her.

Boy, you had a great innings. Monty, my dear, sweet, loving, courageous, brave and energetic little boy... you have been my everything.

And with that, my boy, I bid you farewell and my great and never ending gratefulness that you have been the best thing in my entire life.

    I'll miss you Monty.

    You shall never be replaced.

The greatest love that I could ever offer,
    Chelsea

Thank you for your patience and understanding,
    SAMB

Shame Chelsea.... so sorry to hear about your loss. It is clear to see that you had a very deep love for your pet and I'm sure he had the best (spoilt) life any budgie could ever hope for....... May he rest in peace.... and all the best for you.

Thank you Cheetah. He was an amazing bird and he loved almost everyone he met. I have ordered another one, a normal one though, from a breeder and I am recieving that one after I come back from Durban. I have waited quite a while and done some research. I will post pics of the new one when I get him as I have ordered a weanling so it will still be in those cute little baby stages. I have got it in a different colour as it would make me emotional if it was in Monty's colours.

    Thanks again,
    SAMB
