fancy goldfish legendary supplier

hi guys i have been searching for ranchu and other types of fancy goldfish,i met a guy who owns "OUR PETS" on van riebeck avenue in edenvale,jhb...i met him him on sunday this week and asked if he could get ranchus,he said yes call me thursday ,true to his word i fetched the ranchus today!!

i felt i needed to make the fancy goldfish community awarfe of this "legend" as he can organise almost anything!!

I am very curious, actually how many goldfish keepers in SA are looking for high quality goldfish.

I am asking this question is because I used to breed goldfish in Asia, and I can produce something very high quality.
But I am not sure how's the local demand for high quality goldfish is like?

 

I know I am, perhaps one of the admins can setup a poll for this and we can vote on it

Wow, cant believe I missed this post! I have always loved fancy goldfish (especially Ranchu's) but have never found fish of any decent quality (in SA) which has made me give up goldfish altogether and try to look for something a bit more tangible. Normally when I go to a LFS and ask about Ranchus and Lionheads they point me to a decrepit looking oranda... Nice to hear someone there are actually people out there who have some knowledge of fancy goldfish @gazoh,how are the fish doing? no health issues?

 

Ye it's crazy no one really knows about them here in SA,
mine are doing well,I lost the parents to Costia shortly after breeding but the juveniles are doing well
I've kept about 8 for myself and the rest I've put into a small unused pond at my moms place with green water

Yup thats the plight of the fish I have had too,very little little resilience.But the Fry are always very strong and healthy,just remember to cull so your bloodline stays topnotch!

Hi Courtney, also a fan of fancy goldfish, agreed difficult to find good quality fish, I have 2 fantail redcaps, 1 x black lion head, 2 pearl scales, and 2 gold ranchus and I picked up 2 of the black orandas at pet masters on the weekend, the black lion head picked up a bit of fin rot but I treated this and now they are quite happy, also replaced all my plastic plants with real plants now they have snacks close at hand, will post some pics when I am back in JHB

 

Hay another (gold)fishy fanatic! Great to hear they exist. Only Goldfish I have currently is a beautiful little black moor is his own little pond. Would love to get myself back into goldfish if i could get hold of some proper specimens! Maybe we should start our own little show and tell goldfish thread and stop poaching on @gazoh's thread

Would be nice to see what goldfish the other people in ZA have!

 

Hi Gary, those fish you have there are in fact Chinese Lionheads and not Ranchu. They're nice specimens though

 

ye i later learnt that and then hand spawned these guys from two adult ranchus i found,sadly my wife did a water change with no dechlor and i lost them all
