    Hello Gurus.

    I have had a sump for long time and find that after a period of time the dead bacteria accumulates on the sump floor and causes a PH drop / bad quality water conditions. My sump is hard to access due to limited head room under tank.

    I’m getting a 1400 liter tank soon and am thinking of having canisters (purely for ammonia filtration)

    Refer to sketch – and a false bottom for mechanical filtration. My thinking is;

    Detritus can get sucked through the gravel. If smaller diameter gravel is used detritus will decompose and gradually fall through or get sucked through if the flush valve is opened.

    I really want freshwater planted tank and am aware the roots might be a problem ( I could put them in buried pots) Ive had big planted tanks before and it was big a problem cleaning gravel.

    Would this application best be suited to the tank or the sump?

    Where can I get information on something like this or can someone direct me in the right direction?

    I’ve googled but find limited / irrelevant info.

    Thank you.
    Rob

    Ps I don’t post much. Why do I have to post 50 posts before I can advertise my equipment on TASA? I don’t spam and am well behaved here. Please consider my time for good behaviour Mr/Mrs Mod.

    PEACE!

    @supertramp .... Sorry... but something doesnt sound right about your sump...

    We run sumps on all our tanks and we dont have a problem

    For example, my one tank houses 5 adult stingrays, an adult asian arowana, 12 clown loaches, 2 severums, 2 geos, 3 datnoids and a catfish
    All fish are big

    The batting in my sump gets changed weekly but the ceramics/k1 media was cleaned out for the first time three weeks ago and this tank went up in around September last year.
    Post some pictures of the sump and how you have it packed
