As I've got 2 male Oscars and they always fight for their territory I decided to get a female Oscar.

She is an albino red Oscar and he is only 10cm big. I've been checking her out for a while. She is only in the tank for a few hours and she aready selected a partner for her.

She is in the tank with 5 other fish. Two male Oscars (20cm and 19cm), 2 plecos (43cm and 29cm) and the biggest in the tank, a 56cm Giant gourami.

    Some pictures to follow

@Leen This is my favorite oscar called Bekkie. The two tigers had a fight when they was 4cm big. Bekkies mouth was ripped apart and grew back scew. Bekkie is a almost black tiger oscar. A pic of him. He always hide as the other male chase him like a mad thing.

    @Broder

    That Giant gourami
eat a hole in my budget. She is only a year and 6months old. If she is adult, I'm going to need a new budget.

@Stalker, my tiger Oscar is 15/16cm, have no idea if male or female.
Only thing I can say is that he has been very placid and tame allowing me to pat him etc..
I have clown loaches and polka dots some are big but some are small and he could have had them for breakfast but has never been nasty to them

I really want another Oscar, wold it be better to get a smaller one or one about his size?

If I understood correctly you mention having added a female, can you sex them so young?

I've been studying oscar behavior and sex them according to their attitude against other oscars. I might sex them incorrectly but I've never sexed oscars incorrectly. There is a lot off things that I must stydy over about 3 weeks to confirm that I sex them correctly.

It would be better to add an oscar more or less the same size. You can add a smaller oscar but the bigger one will change his attitude and chase the smaller one to show who is the boss in the tank. Oscars is known to eat anything that he might think will fit in his mouth. As Oscars become adults their personality can change against other oscars.

The new small albino oscar in my tank already paired up with one of my males. Now I've got a new breeding pair.

The best way to sex oscars is when they spawn and do their thing. Oscars can breed from about 12cm to 13cm.

@Stalker, thanks... I will look for one more or less his size and see how it goes

I had 4 a few years ago, I was lucky they grew up together, had their occasional fights but nothing to serious
2 paired off and ruled one side of the tank but ... no babies....

I have never introduced 2grown ups so am very worried.. but, will give it a try

Yours are beautiful, good luck with your new pair.

    Have you bred them before?

The one oscar is a nightmare. He attacks anything in the tank. The tank is about 1200 liter big so there is enough space. The Giant gourami is going to end up bullying that male oscar till his dead. Giant gouramies can get bad if they get annoyed. I must sell that male oscar to save his life.

Something strange in my tank is that Gekkie, the Giant gourami is protecting that little albino red oscar like a mad thing. Every time the aggressive tiger oscar show aggression against tha albino, the Giant gourami will bully the tiger. Nature is so magnificent.

I bought another 5cm big albino tiger oscar today. She is staying in a separate tank as my Giant gourami will enjoy it as a meal.
