    Hi guys

I’m looking for some advice on purchasing equipment on amazon USA.

Amazon is selling some nice canister filters for quite cheap.

I can get an Eheim 250 delivered to me in Cape Town for under R1700.

The issue is that it is 110v and has American plugs. Is it worth it to buy and get it to work in rsa or is it just cheaper/better to buy one in rsa?

If it was me, I would buy in SA.
Firstly you will probably get charged import duty.
And secondly, if you have some sort of problem, it will be difficult to resolve.
    And thirdly, the voltage issue

The thing is, the price of R1700 includes the import duty and it is approximately R2000 cheaper than what it costs in RSA.

Is this saving big enough to deal with your second and third points?

You would need a 220V to 110V converted to run the filter, i reckon you'd get one for around R700 - R900

That’s not cheap but still the overall cost is a lot cheaper than what it would cost in Rsa.

Other than the voltage issue and what to do if something breaks I can’t think of any other reason for me not to get it.

I recently bought a few Eheim goodies from Amazon and the prices (including shipping and duties) were approx 50% of the local price, so yes it is a viable option.
Arrived in 10 days - I chose the cheapest shipping option.

Mine were battery operated (vacuum and auto feeders) and books so no voltage issue.
    Warrantee is an issue.

Keep in mind that if customs decides to flag your package for inspection and it does not meet South African standards it will be rejected. Products imported must meet local standards e.g. SABS, SANS, etc... and backed up by the correct documentation/certification from the manufacturer. Re voltage difference
