    In my pants.

    Pro's:

    • 3 year warranty on any type of failure excluding glass shattering.
    • Finally! Someone who has made a proper cradle and suction cups for a heater that does not come loose when moving the heater.
    • Comes with thermo-safety automatic shutdown system if moisture gets into the heater.
    • Uses a nice dial system on-top of heater for temperature adjustments, so adjusting the temperature is very accurate.
    • Comes with extra long power cord 1.7 meters.
    Con's:

    • Price, it comes in at around R380 for a 300 WATT model you can easily buy two 200 WATT heater for its price.
    • Size! It is absolutely massive! Total length is about 45 cm's..Make sure you have enough space to fit it in your tank.

the temp is not always accurate ,you have to fine tune it,
they are quick heating heaters ,
    they are ugly ,
    they use a single coil
,instead of muti coil or a wrapped coil
the suction cups are absolutely uselesss as the plastic gets hard and unflexible

    Positive:
    Pretty reliable.
If the temp is out, it can be calibrated.

    Negative:
Agree on the suction cups. They get hard and could not be used later on.
Box says it is for 1000L tank. Rather not trust that.

Im using 2 on a 220l with a 100l sump to keep constant temp. they are more reliable than any others. Its weird that just one is rated for 1000l? I guess the sump makes all the difference. or am i wrong and they cost bux and suck.

You cannot compare this heater to any of the others that come at a much lower price. Remember, this is the only heater, I know of, that will automatically switch itself off when the water level drops. You say cheers to the others!
I run a 300W on my 1000l Malawi tank in my shop. 300W is plenty for that size. Always a good idea to gave a second, that is set at a slightly lower temp, that acts as a backup.

You rather get the Fluval E300

    http://www.fluvalblog.com/heaters/e-series/

These heaters are sick! The LCD changes color if the water exceeds or drops below your set temperature. Highly accurate . . .

Not in SA yet but making a plan with JungleAquatics to get them. :)

had my jager heater for five years before i came home one day to find the temp in my tank at 35 deg. thermostat was stuck and heater did not switch of. i suppose fives years is a long time so have not written it off completely yet. replacd it with the dolpin range ,but it does not seem to be accurate in terms of temperature.

    any thoughts guys

Interesting that the LPS that I frequest at Clearwater started out a few years ago with Jagers only... and they are slowly replacing them as they break with Via-Aqua's. They claim the price doesn't justify the quality you actually get out of them. If you prepared to pay the real mcKoy (i.e the Titanium housed heater) then yes...

Having said that though, I am very happy with my 300w Jager which has been running for 2 years now!

Very happy with the range of Jager heaters that I am using at the moment. One tank did drain due to a faulty airpump, and when I got home two days later, the 100w Jager in the tank was in 100% working condition. I still use it today.

Also agree that the suction cups get hard very quickly.
Apparently the Jager heaters is more efficient at heating the water so the result is that You pay less for electricity in the long run:)

I love these heaters, have 2 of them, one had run my 1500L pond,in the morning the temp was 26 like i adjusted it. But ofcourse it wasnt as cold then as now,it worked over time so i added 2 lifetech 300w heaters and they kept the pond at 26.. Nice stuff, and it uses less power to warm a bigger tank and much faster

IMO, i think the Eheim jager heater is among the best on the market available to us in SA. Very good build quality, efficient heat transfer surface area, auto shut off feature, accurate temp setting & recal function, made from shatter proof glass

I like them because I can set and they work all the way down to 18 degrees .... I do remove them from the tanks after winter - not sure if that will have an impact on them in the future.

    Later F

I purchased my first jäger heater second hand in 2006! I wish I could say its still working but I dropped it in march this year. They great heaters, bought a new one in a heart beat. I would also go as far as to say they the best heaters on the SA market.

i bought 2 50w jagers that have been running for about 2 weeks. They are rather big- but you get the feeling they are less ikely to break than other glass heaters. also love that it can be calibrated easily, saves me having to remember which heaters run 1 or 2 deg hotter or colder than it states on the dial.
