    @Lillas,

    Can your lfs not help you out?

    Is also worth considering buying your own test kit, especially if you plan on testing your water often.

    Would anyway just be nice meeting someone in my area that can come have a look now and then at my tank to see that all is good.

    It's always good to test your water, especially if you get new fish. This is because, the LFS water's PH might be different from yours.. and a big PH difference can mean certain death for your fish. A lot of people think its the sudden change in water temp that kills newly introduced fish, but it is most of the time the water chemistry. and especially the PH. most fish can handle a max of 1PH difference, if you are very very lucky and if the fish is super hardy.. but some can't even handle a 0.3PH difference.

    So best to get a PH test kit, it will be a great investment. You don't have to test your water all the time. So would last you a long time.

    Head to Fish for Africa. They are on High Road in Pomona (plot 224 if memory serves). You'll get incredible advice if you are polite in your approach. Head there on a Friday if you can as they are much quieter then.

    The staff are knowledgable and stock is fairly priced. They will be able to test a sample of your water for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and sometime hardness as well. I have never had the PH tested but they probably do it.

    Just contact the department of water affairs. I did here in Cape Town and they sorted me out with all the values of PH, hardness etc. etc. Super helpful people working there, you would be surprised.

    You are DA governed, we are ANC governed. Don't think they have guys here in water affairs who even know what PH is. They are more specialised in 7 series BMW specifications.

    Nah. I lived in Jhb for 13 years... And when I wanted to know exact river levels before driving to Natal DWAF would mail me Excel sheets of the flow rates and dam levels. They are super good. Just mail your council, you might be surprised. Hope so! *edit: in fact I see another Benoni chap, exactly where I lived! lol.. :laugh:

    You hit the nail on the head, sad to say but you are 1001% correct. If you ask those Dummies about PH then they will think it is something new on their BMW ..... Those Monkeys will not be able to help you in anyway. It is sad to see our beautiful country go this way .......So SAD ..................
