    Hi everyone

I did my first water change on Saturday and from yesterday both my dwarf gouramis are swimming listlessly about their favourite plant. The one is not eating at all. I've done some reading on the internet and it appears that Dwarf Gouramis are susceptable to the Dwarf Gourami Iridovirus.

Am I going to lose my gouramis? :push: All my other fish are acting perfectly normally.

Did you treat the water before adding it? What size water change did you do?

Are any of your dwarf gouramis looking plump?
Have they lost their colours? (or has their colours started to fade?(almost black))
In the last days of the infection they will refuse to eat so if they don't have the above symptoms then it's not likely that they have Dwarf Gourami Iridovirus.

Edit:You may also notice sores on the back area of the gouram when the infection is at it's last phases.

How long have you had them for, and how long have you had the tank set up?

None of them are looking plump and their colours are the same - no fading or black patches.

I've had the tank for 1 month and 8 days. It cycled for just over 3 and a half weeks before I added any fish. Did a water change of about 20% after 7 days of adding the fish.

I heated the water to the same temperature as the tank and dechlorinated the water at least 2 hours before adding it to the tank.

I can only hope that they will recover - they are the only fish that appear to be sick.

Sounds like you did everything right... Dwarfs are known for being shy, it could just be behavioural and nothing to worry about, especially since there is no change in colouration. Thanks for the relevant info given, I hope someone can help you if the problem persists.

Well then i don't think your dwarf gouramis have Iridovirus.

Just a note:If any one is breeding or is going to start breeding dwarf gouramis (or any other fish) then please DO NOT breed siblings, breeding siblings make the fry more vulnerable to the Iridovirus (and other diseases/bacteria) but it effects dwarf gouramis more or less the most.

    Hey Fonkie

Haven't fed them any live foods yet (frozen or otherwise). Just the standard flakes that the pet store uses. Will have a look at them when I go home later. The one was on the bottom when I left but apparently later it swam back up to its normal position by the surface.

    Hi B

I'm gonna put my head in a bee nest here i also have a lot of gouramies and bloodworm can make them sick (obviously thats not the problem because you don't feed them bloodworm) what you can try is to throw in some Epsom salt( the proffs gonna freak out lol) for a day or three and see what happens 1 tee spoon for every 5 liters.

My one got bloat treat it with Epsom and 2 Cycles of tetra General tonic its still fat but he is swimming around its been 3 weeks now so i don't know whats gonna happen i don't have any idees what to do.

Oh well, my one Gourami died today. The other looks set to follow

I had a Pearl Gourami too that died the day after I brought it home from the LFS. And if I think about it they all exhibited the same sort of symptoms. Although the Pearl Gourami did a lot of lying at the bottom of the tank.

    Makes me quite sad!

Sorry that I couldn't help :(. I've kept Pearls, Moonlights, Snakeskins, and varieties of three-spot gouramis successfully, but never have I had Dwarfs survive for a decent amount of time.
