    Hi All

Maybe some of you can help me regarding where I can find nice driftwood in Johannesburg area, preferably in the East Rand?

I'm looking to change my tank and use some driftwood and live plants, but the only place I could find with nice driftwood, was charging R 80/kg?
    Is this normal?

    Any help would be appreciated.

Any help perhaps on how to prepare driftwood?

Don't like the water being brown?

    Thanks

i have seen that seachem Purigen can help with that! still want to test in my tanks!
it takes the brown out of the water! when the water is filterd by a canniter or internal filter with purigen in it!

@HvNDhF soak the wood in salt or boil (if you have a container big enough) to kill the nasties.

Best way to remove tannins (the stuff that makes the water brown) and remove air in the wood (to make it sink) is to let it soak in water for a week or two in a bath or bucket(changing the water daily) - the thicker the wood, the longer the soak.

If you buy from a lps, there is no need to boil the wood, Just dunk it in boiling water for 2min. On the other hand like me, I got a nice root from a blown down tree, that I had to boil. Boiling the wood breaks down the fibres and the wood may rot earlier. The brown (tannins in wood) are actually good for fish.
