add the wood to a pot of water and boil.
drain, add new water and boil the wood.
Do this until the water is clear.

To cure driftwood properly can take months. Boiling speeds this up. If you do not like the yellow look you
can add purigen to the tank.

I'm busy curing Mopani at the moment in a bucket, every day I replace the water with hot water. Been doing this for nearly two weeks and the wood is still leaching tannin. I've read that it can take a month to get the tannin out, aparently adding salt to the water speeds this up.

As for wood floating - I think you need to get heavier wood. Drift wood is a bit light (if it's drift wood like that which you collect on a beach)

be careful adding too much salt though.. it might soak into ur wood and leach into ur tank.. fish dont mind it (actually they like it) but your plants wont..

Try boiling, i had a piece that had been soaking for almost a month and it was still floating, i boiled it over the weekend and it now sinks. Wil probably boil it again for the tannins and get a small pack of purigen just in case. Boiling really works and has the added benefit of sterilizing it ;-)

Hi Sherwin, I bought Purigen from the LPS and it was R150 for up to 400lt, water is still brown though, I heard that the fish actually like it, its just us that prefer the water clear, so just going to do water changes as Shihr said and see what happens :)

I only scrubbed it and did not boil it at all :)

U need to recharge the purigen in order for it. To be effective in a hypochlorite solution
