Draft Alien Invasive Species Lists

    Hi guys

    There is currently a discussion around the proposed new blacklists: http://www.sanbi.org/invasives/Freshwater Fish 18 Nov 08 with grid.pdf

    Have a look at the new proposed lists here on sanbi.org (the forum wont allow me to post links so cant post the link here)

    Most of the fish we like have been included in the exempted list, so things are looking good.

    as i understand it they want to ban all the fish on this list Andre.... massive problem

    You will find that most fish are on the list titled:

    "Draft register of exempted species
    (Alien species already legally in South Africa and not currently regarded as invasive - mainly refers to species in trade)"

    ah yes - i was sent an email by DUB saying that ALL species will be banned thats on the 35 pages.....

    Not good... not good at all....

    Already the list has seriously strangled the aquarium trade in South Africa. Some of those species I could never see surviving in South Africa, particulary over the winter. Even in Durban the temperature drop to well below their tolerances.

    I have spoken to the guys setting up the list... its not THAT bad.... i cant say anything just yet but watch this space :D
