Hi All - I have been a very quiet forum member for a long time. I had a little "Plant" break in my tanks and was just letting the ones that were there do their thing. I have recently done a biggish re-scape and put some new cuttings in. I don't run C02 (To be honest, very scared to try at the cost) I was getting some Fertiliser at the stores today - Went to two stores, and both times the guys told me about these Tablets and showed me their tanks that they use them in. The tanks look good and the plants look great. Anyway, I did buy a tube of the stuff but I have a large tank 260L and I run a Cannister and a Corner Filter. I have probably wasted my money but hoping someone might just have something good to say that will give me hope that I didn't. I do have smaller tanks I could use it in instead if it might be more effective.

Link just to provide context. I did not buy it here.

Secondly - Is anybody using a DIY C02 setup? Is that even something I could consider to get started before investing in a proper system?

Hi @Featherfin, I bought them a few months back, and tbh I didn't see much results from them. I used them in my 3ft and used 2 at a time.
Though I'll be honest, I have been struggling with decent plant growth of late anyways.. I have inert substrate and very few fish so it could've even just been due to not enough food for the plants and so the co2 tabs had little effect.

Thank you for that. I have great nutrient Molm rich Substrate and finally a new light so hopefully this will help. I must say that today the cuttings are all looking outstanding.

That's good! Well plkease let us know if they work for you. I decided after seeing this to try them again as I've been fertilising the tank more regularly of late to try boost it

Yeah- so for my tank I calculated that I would need 5 Tabs twice per week. I think that keeping consistent and with the correct dose is important to see results with anything. Btw, what ferts are you using? I am looking for opinions on Scape Complete.

No experience with these but I’m skeptical after reading the dosing instructions.

My understanding and experience with injected CO2 is that the dissolved gas levels quickly return to their base levels once you stop injecting - due to the gas exchange laws.

So if you were only dosing biweekly (for small tanks) I’m not sure it would consistently raise CO2 to the required levels to make a difference.

That said I will get some and give it a try in my low tech nano tank to see if it makes a difference.

Please update on this as I'm interested in seeing the results, with your scepticism I share the same. My thoughts are the fluctuating co2 levels will increase BBA but I'm no expert and would love first hand experience

I think the idea is that they're effervescent tablets and technically give a more sustained release. And also why you the dosage seems weird, especially twice weekly. Although I have noticed they fizz away quite quickly. I put 2 in this morning around 9ish and they're already gone so I'm not sure..

I also want to try Scape, been hearing good things. But I'm currently finishing off my bottle of seachem flourish before I buy a new bottle of scape. And I only dose once a week.

I’m currently using daily doses of Scape Complete and Scape Trace and K in my heavily planted 180l. Seems to be working well so far

Thanks- thats good to hear. Re the Dr Tank. I am not sure if it really works but my cuttings have grown a good 5-10 cm overall this week ao either they love the substrate and took well to it or the stuff works because their colours are great and they look super healthy.

That’s quite hectic growth then. That’s more or less what i get with injected CO2, Aquasoil and liquid ferts.

And no Black Brush Algae yet?

    Curious to try this!

I was quite surprised. But I had also dosed ferts a day or two before starting these. So don’t hold me to it.
