    Hello,

I have the 4th edition of Dr Axelrod's Atlas of Freshwater Fishes, I'm thinking of getting the 11th edition. Anybody with multiple editions or have seen multiple editions and is the difference between the editions worthwhile for such an upgrade?

    Nothing beats a good book.

    Cheers,
    Nico

I would say definitely worth getting.
But you are asking the wrong person

A similar publication is the Aqualog series is more up-to-date.
Each volume covers a group of fish ie L Plecs, Polys, Discus etc
    Well worth getting

    Hi, 11th edition owner here.

Do you find you get much use out of your Axelrod? I used it a lot earlier in the hobby, but these days I tend to use it only when I'm struggling with the identification of rarer species, and these days I'm not seeing a hell of a lot of rare species.

If you're still using your book quite a bit, and are willing to drop that kind cash on a picture guide (because the "husbandry" symbols are pretty vague anyway), an upgrade is worthwhile since they've added a couple of new species and have updated the names... well, updated is a bit of a stretch, since it was a 2007 publication, and there have been many changes and discoveries in the 11 years since then.

You can still ID with the old book and check on the new naming through web searches.

    Just IMO.

I have one of the older versions of Axelrod. Don't use it much as there are a lot more fish available in the hobby than there were in those days.

As I say, for ID, Aqualog is quite good.
And there is a also a lot of general info on the group too.
