I had a similar question a while back and members suggested that I do not go bigger than a 3ft tank on a rack system... Maybe if you also bolt the stand to the wall it might work, but let's see what more knowledgeable members say...

I wouldn't, simply because you won't be able to view or maintain either optimally.

100% agree with Broder ... I had some dreams about stacking

    1.8 meter stand - build - Page 4[IMG]

Both the boxes are 700 high - and I tried with a 600 high cube on this stand before, no way to maintain it if I still had to add 20 cm between the bottom tank on the floor and the top tank.

I choose this because the place I whant to place the tanks is the warmest during winter and I also whant to make it my study. This space is 2m x 3.3m. Maintenance I will have deal with.....

I would rather use 50 mm square tubing or better still 50 x 75 retangular tubing. Angle iron just does not have the same load-bearing capabilities as tubing.

they are typically not the display tanks, and you have surely seen the ladders these guys use.

Not saying it can not be done.

Also consider the 1.8 is a serious span for 650l at +- 780kg

So my father paid me a visit laast night who is a builder, very experienced. I showed him my 1.8, took him to the place I whant to put the tanks and I ask him concrete lintels will work. He said yes if I put 4 and turn them on their side so that the hight of the lintel is 110mm. So im gonna strengthen the walls put the lintels across and maybe strengthen it with steel that I have laying around in the gaps and cover it with concrete.
If you differ with me, comment on the idea.....

I would feel nervous having these size tanks on any type of rack...

But if you go ahead with this...
    * You can also add plumbing to the tanks to assist in water changes - this will help reduce the amount of time you will spent climbing up and down on ladders... (If you are using a canister, the easiest is to add a t jount with a couple of valves on the return/inflow pipe - then you can clip on a hose, open the vavle (Close a valve going into the tank) and it will then drain your water...
    * You can also dress the setup with some wood and it will look like a massive cabinet with 2 tanks...

Can anybody run a solid 40mm x 40mm x 5mm angle iron stand design through a software stress test for Ebrahim ?

I am convinced that will be more than enough to hold this tank especially with a robust design, X shaped supports on the back, one up the middle and 3 bars going from front to back, one at 45cm, one at 90cm, one at 135cm on both levels. Steel and welding is tough stuff, @Ebrahim, the tank in my bedroom is just under 800kgs of water (145x77x71cm), on a 15mm solid steel tube stand (warning; don't try this at home, hahah!).

I watched a video some time ago showing a guy building such a stand. Will try and find the link.
