On Sunday I bought 5 Apisto. Cacatoiud Sunbursts from slagter... 2 males, 3 females. OK, Slagter will tell you it's 1.5 males, because the one male is "deformed" in his opinion.

They been sitting ni QT since Sunday, and this evening I introduced them to my main display tank.

My Male Ram went absolutely BASERK! He looked like a pitbull in a fighting ring attacking the male Apisto. (The other 4.5females disappeared under a pot).

Now I had a decision to make! The Apisto's are my fav fish... and the sunburst being my favourite of them all! The Ram's are going!

I spent over an hour chasing the bl**dy male ram trying to catch him. Everytime I looked away he was attacking the male apisto... and then when he saw me looking, he ducked under the rocks. Needless to say, I caught him... and had he not been such a pretty fish in his own right, I would have just chucked him down the loo. The female Ram I actually caught accidentally whilst chasing the male.

Madam is on her way to collect herself a Ram pair!

I said there is 1.5 males because 1 is "deformed" (You were there when he explained it to us Doug!!) That means instead of 4 females, there is 4.5 females. (duh)

    LOL!!

That's strange... The Rams are usually peaceful towards Cacas... I've kept them together before... Very strange.

Glad you sorted it out though...

I had the same problem trying to catch the A. Borelli that were in the 3 foot tank over the weekend. At first they were not trying to hide away, but when they caught on to what was about to happen, they would duck down into the plant when the net appeared making it impossible to get to them. Not wanting to break down the tank completely to make the job at hand easy, I first tried catching them with a fish trap made out of a 500ml plastic bottle baited with some bloodworm. The trap only managed to catch some of the pygmy cories in the tank. So it does work, but patience is not one of my virtues. I then baited the net with some bloodworm, and had the fish swimming into the net for a snack in no time. That made it easy, and saved me loads of work.
