Does your tank eat electricity?

    Hey guys,

    I was wondering if any of you noticed an increase in power usage when you got your tank up and running?

    I have one heater(eheim), dophin F2000 filter and a normal white fish light tube.. started to notice the units on my prepaid meter getting munched quite rapidly.. anyone else experience power jumps or are fish tanks relatively quite good with power consumption?

    I leave the heater on(has a thermostat), the filter, and light on during the day..

    I have never worked out my tank's electricity consumption.
    I would rather not know!

    Just check the wattage on your equipment, and you'll get a good idea of the consption. You can work it out accurately if you want to torture yourself, but heaters are by far the biggest culprits, so it makes good sense to make sure your tank is covered in winter. Lighting can chow a lot too, especially if you have old school metal halides. LED lighting reduces this and the need for cooling in summer substantially.

    Fortunately we have eskom to help you out by making sure you do not have access to power to waste all the time. :)
