I'm new to the idea of fertilisers and everything.

I recently planted some new plants and want to know if it needs ferts. It's planted in sand - bought from Panorama - which is VERY clean at the moment. I have java fern, Amazon sword and some other little bushy plant which I don't know. The tank is still cycling.

I know there's ferts for the substrate and for the water.

Please advise me on what I need to do.

Ah ok so I don't need to push the pellets into the sand too?

Maybe for the Amazon Sword, but I dont bother with that.... Neighbours rabbits dung works well for me... one "poop" per big rooted plant every 2 months or so works like a bomb...he,he

Nope - Rabbit or Guinea Pigs - got to do with the bacteria in their gut and the way they digest vegetable matter...
